The motorist who died on the A24 at Southwater yesterday afternoon (Wednesday July 24) was an 19-year-old woman from Godalming, police have confirmed.

Officers are appealing for witnesses after members of the public reported seeing a car on fire in a ditch just north of the Buck Barn crossroads.

Emergency services were called to the scene at 4.05pm.

In a statement released this morning, Sussex Police confirmed: “The driver, a 19-year-old from Godalming, was the only occupant of the vehicle and she sadly died at the scene.”
