Irene Lorimer was chosen for the role at the town's Royal Air Forces Association 361 branch and club. Irene spent many years as the branch and club's secretary and chairman before she took on her latest position at the branch and club's annual meeting. She took over from Roy Edge who stood down after he served seven years as the president. Mrs Lorimer is also entering her seventh year as the president of the Air Training Corps' 2351 Squadron in Bognor. All other RAFA officers were re-elected at the meeting - Ron Flatt (branch chairman), Frank Hull (club chairman), John Gradwell (secretary), Cliff Mewett (treasurer), Don Jasper (welfare officer), Iran Annis (Wings Appeal organiser), Jean Simmonds (membership secretary) and Peter Farrell (entertainments manager). New members, both ordinary (former RAF) and associates, are welcomed by the RAFA. An application form and further information are available from the RAFA Club in Waterloo Square. An open day is being held by club on May 5 to enable people to find out more about the regular activities which are held there. They include line dancing, short mat bowling, playing snooker, billiards, dancing, quizzes and even gardening. The local ATC will be present as well to provide information for teenagers interested in aviation. Free tea, coffee and biscuits will be available during the day.
