Haslemere resident Percy Walker-Smith is taking on a 12-hour, non-stop cycle challenge today (June 11) to raise money for Pancreatic Cancer Action.

Percy, who has already raised more than £1,200, is doing the ride in memory of a close family friend, Rod Kohler, who passed away from pancreatic cancer two years ago.

Percy said: “Rod was a very close family friend and a ‘father figure’ to me. He was a family man, an incredible organiser and friend who was loved by many.

“I have always wanted to challenge myself with a cycling event for Pancreatic Cancer Action since Rod passed away.

“Now that I have been given a large amount of time to think of the challenge as well as the time to train for it due to the lockdown, I thought that it would be a great time to begin.”

Percy’s 23km loop will take him through Linchmere, Fernhurst and Dial Green before he returns to Haslemere through Barfold Wood – and he has invited friends of his and Rod’s to join him for a lap.

Rod founded many different groups including Rod’s Runners, Rod’s Riders and Rod’s Walkers, which all still continue as active groups.
